In this task, we need to choose an existing website or app and conduct a case study on it. We'll evaluate whether it meets the four criteria of being usable, equitable, enjoyable, and useful. Then, we'll analyze its strengths and weaknesses.
Progression & Lecture
Week01/Module Introduction(21.04.2025)
In this week’s lecture, we were introduced to a brief history of UI/UX design, as well as the concepts of UI, UX, and CX. Basically, UI/UX design is about designing a product that appeals to the five human senses: sight, touch, smell, taste, and hearing. In my understanding, it’s a continuous process of feedback and improvement.
UI (User Interface) mainly refers to the visual aspect of a product and how users interact with it. UX (User Experience) is about how satisfied users feel when using the product, focusing on convenience and usability. CX (Customer Experience) relates more to the overall impression and feedback from customers, covering both the visual design and usability of the product. To me, CX is what gets people to hear about you, UI is what attracts them, and UX is what keeps them with you.
So far, we’ve been given a brief about Task 1 — we need to create a case study on a website or an app. I have a few options in mind, such as the Apple App Store or Taylor’s Campus website.Since I’m an Entertainment Design student, I’d like to focus on something related to my field. So, I started looking into official game websites or well-known platforms related to gaming. My finalists are the PlayStation official website, Steam, the Honkai: Star Rail website, and Riot Games’ official site.I decided to go with Riot Games’ official website because I’m not very familiar with it. That gives me the opportunity to experience it with a fresh perspective and form a genuine first impression. I’m already too familiar with the other websites, so I’ve adapted to their designs, which might make it harder to analyze them objectively.
Week02/User Understanding and Project Brief(28.04.2025)
In this week's lecture, we covered how to understand users. A key concept introduced was the Mental Model, which refers to how users perceive, interact with, and respond to a product based on their own understanding. This understanding is influenced by factors such as education level, experience, culture, and more.We also discussed the categories of users:
- Primary Users: The main target users.
- Secondary Users: Individuals who influence the decisions of primary users.
- Tertiary Users: Those who are affected by the decisions made by primary and secondary users.
As for the project brief, we are required to conduct research through interviews and propose a solution based on the theme "Smart Campus Mobility & Parking Experience for Taylor’s University." We can either improve the existing platforms (such as the campus portal or Taylor’s app) or develop a new website or app to address the problems. Some interview tips were also shared, such as staying natural during interviews and paying attention to the interviewees' underlying messages.
Week03/User Persona(05.05.2025)
In this week’s lecture, we covered the concept of user personas. A user persona is a fictional character that represents a group of users who share similar behaviors or patterns. The goal of creating personas is to gain insight into the target market and provide a reference point for product design decisions. Key elements of a persona include personal details, goals, and pain points, with an emphasis on building empathy toward the users.

Task 1/UX Audit
Week01/Case decided & First impression
After some consideration, I’ve chosen my case study target: Riot’s official website. I decided to start by writing down my first impressions of the site — focusing on the overall look, as well as the content, layout, and functional features.
I started with a rough analysis of the entire web, taking notes on the content and features, and identifying areas for improvement. I organized the notes by content category.

Week02/Slide Preparation
This week, I continued my analysis with a stronger focus on the website's flow and features. I examined whether the overall structure made sense, how convenient it was to use, and how well each section functioned and interacted with the others. I also evaluated how intuitive and user-friendly the interface would be for someone new to the platform. In addition, I looked for areas where the website could be improved to enhance the overall user experience.

Task 1/Interview
As part of the task, each of us needs to interview two individuals separately, meaning that with three group members, we should conduct a total of six interviews. We need to prepare a set of interview questions in advance, then carry out the interviews to identify each person's pain points and behavioral patterns related to the topic. Some useful tips and guidance for this process can be found in the Week 02 and Week 03 lecture sections(see lectures)
Week03&Week04/Creating Interview Questions and Interview
We initially began developing our interview questions with a focus on students who use public transportation at our school. However, after receiving feedback, Miss advised us not to limit ourselves too early in the development phase (see feedback). Based on this, we decided to broaden our target group to include all types of commuters on campus. Following that, we started looking for interviewees. I interviewed two individuals — Oscar and Vincent, both of whom are my friends, and one is even my neighbor. This familiarity allowed me to explore their experiences more deeply and better understand their responses. The interviews were conducted through Zoom online meetings.
Week04/Figma board build up
After completing all our interviews, each of us uploaded the data we collected to our individual sections on the Figma board. We then created a central compilation board to organize and combine all the interview findings. This compilation board will serve as the foundation for our Task 2 preparation,

Week03
Don’t limit ourselves too early during the interview process—start with a broad theme, then narrow down to specific areas. The purpose of the interview is to identify problems and understand our users. Ideas can be set aside for now and adjusted later based on the insights gathered from the interviews.
I requested individual feedback for Task 1: UX Audit. While the overall content is acceptable, several improvements are needed:
- Clarify the presentation by adding directional cues such as arrows or visual indicators.
- Adjust the layout/composition to enhance readability and user flow.
- Include a dedicated section to analyze the pros and cons of the website for a more structured evaluation.
Week04
We had a consultation with Miss on Friday (16.05.2025). Here’s the feedback we received: Interview Files: We need to create a Google Drive folder and upload our interview materials (transcripts and recordings) into separate, clearly labeled files for each interviewee.
Figma Board Improvements:
- Add a clear timeline and detailed explanations to the board so that first-time visitors can easily understand our project goals and progress.
- Examples of well-structured boards were shown during the consultation.
- The layout and organization of our current board should be improved for better clarity and user experience.
Reflection
Organising, planning, and conducting research are extremely important in the early stages of a project—especially when working on something we have no prior experience with. As an Entertainment Design student, I tend to focus more on aesthetics and creating visually engaging designs. However, UX design has introduced me to a completely new perspective—one that emphasizes functionality and usability. This experience has helped me understand the importance of empathizing with users, identifying their pain points, and creating solutions that meet their needs in an engaging and meaningful way. I believe these skills will be very valuable for my future work, allowing me to design experiences that are both useful and entertaining.
Since this is a group project, communication played a key role. Shoutout to my teammates—they have been incredibly helpful. They often grasp the lecturer's instructions quickly and take the time to explain things to me. They also stay on top of our progress and take initiative to prepare for upcoming tasks. It feels safe and reassuring to work with teammates who have a clear plan and shared vision for the project.
We did face some challenges early on, especially in terms of limiting our scope too much. Fortunately, Dr. Chong pointed it out and helped us broaden our perspective. That feedback really helped shift our mindset. I’m hopeful that our ongoing progress will continue smoothly.
